Fasano is a town in Puglia between the Adriatic coast and the hills of the Valle d’Itria. Its territory includes an old centre, rural masserie, olive groves, coastal districts and the wooded slopes around Selva di Fasano. These places are spread out and should not be treated as a single walkable attraction.

Fasano’s historic centre

The old town, sometimes called U’mbracchie for its narrow shaded lanes, is centred around whitewashed houses, arches and small courtyards. The Mother Church of San Giovanni Battista is one of the principal religious buildings. Access may pause during services or private ceremonies.

Piazza Ciaia forms the more open civic centre. Shops and cafés change over time, so a useful guide should describe the district rather than promise particular businesses.

Selva di Fasano and the hills

Selva di Fasano is a separate hill district above the town, known for cooler summer air, villas and views towards the Adriatic. It requires a drive or local transport; it is not part of the pedestrian historic-centre route.

Egnazia and the coast

The archaeological park of Egnazia lies near the coast outside Fasano. It contains remains from Messapian and Roman periods together with a museum. It is an independently managed, ticketed site with its own opening calendar.

Coastal areas such as Savelletri and Torre Canne are distinct settlements. Beach services, parking and lifeguard coverage vary by location and season.

Commercial attractions

Zoosafari Fasanolandia is a private commercial attraction outside the centre. Tickets, opening days, animal areas and ride operations must be checked with the operator. Its presence should not be confused with public access to Fasano’s heritage sites.

Practical information

A car is useful for linking the town, hills, archaeological park and coast. Watch for restricted traffic zones in the centre and use designated parking. Summer heat can be intense at lower elevations, while evenings at Selva di Fasano may be cooler.

Allow half a day for the historic centre alone. Egnazia, the coast and commercial attractions each require separate travel time and planning.
