Ferry connection This is the one that catches people out. Hydrofoils from Milazzo take one to two hours to Lipari and Salina, longer to Filicudi and Alicudi — and the last sailing to the outer islands leaves in the early afternoon. Land at Catania after about 2pm and you will be sleeping in Milazzo, not on the island. Book a morning flight.
Fontanarossa Recommended
Then the hydrofoil from Milazzo. The usual and most reliable route.
Falcone Borsellino
A longer transfer to the port, but sometimes the fares justify it.
Capodichino
In high summer a direct hydrofoil runs from Naples to the islands. Slow, but it skips Sicily altogether.
Local knowledge Leave the car on the mainland. On Filicudi, Alicudi and Panarea they are restricted or simply pointless.
Journey times are approximate and vary according to the villa location, traffic and local road conditions. Flight routes: Summer 2026. Routes are the one thing here that changes every year, which is why they carry a date and the drive times do not.
