“Set in the idyllic French countryside, this historic 14th century Chateau maintains the authenticity of it’s sumptuous past while harmonically incorporating all of the modernity of the 21st century”

Interiors

Sitting on a 600 hectare estate, this Dordogne Castle is a historic piece of French culture and architecture and the product of an epic remodel pictured by the owners, enthusiastic collectors and admirers of contemporary art. By combining contemporary furnishings and unique pieces of art with elements from the original structure, this property is the definition of a dream-come-true to design lovers.

Approaching the property, the main gate leads you straight into the grand-court, inviting you to appreciate the property’s original structure at it’s peak. The flowered bindweed peaking through the sun-burned bricks leads your eyes straight to the castle’s traditional hip roof, from where the Capel’s blue roof tiles stand out.

In this luxury Dordogne Castle’s main wing you will find the common areas, each of them with it’s own personality. In the traditional hardwood dining room, complete with a majestic floor-to ceiling fireplace and historical paintings, the bright red asian-inspired chandelier beautifully talks to the abstract wallpaper. Likewise, also the lounging areas blends elements of centuries past with present-day artwork. From hardwood doors with iron fixtures leading into rooms with mirrored walls and neon fans to a stunning kitchen composed by lacquered pastel blue cabinets with hanging copper pans and pots, the castle intends to surprise you in every corner.

This ground floor is divided into an entryway, the main living room, 2 smaller lounging areas, a TV room and 2 fully equipped kitchens –  a social and a semi-industrial private chef kitchen.

Moving upstairs lie the Dordogne Castle’s sleeping chambers. Composed by 6 bedrooms ranging from 50 to 90 square meters each, all with their own ensuite marble and stone clad bathrooms, this area is very particular. Extremely luxurious, each bedroom follows a different color-scheme, all mixing, however, the property’s authentic features with the owner’s passion for contemporary design.

On the secondary wing, connected to the main wing by the gate wall, lies a rustic yet fully equipped kitchen, a living room and the service area, while on the second floor lie the 3 bedrooms. This annex shares only the grand-court with the main wing.

Exteriors

The picturesque French countryside sets the tone for the Dordogne Castle’s outside experience. With hectares of delicately cared gardens surrounding the castle, a beautiful stone table – long enough to sit 24 guests – can be found among the greenery. Right across lies the unique swimming pool, sitting between sets of beautiful emerald colored sun beds.

The forest that surrounds the Castle engulfs it in a one-of-a-kind fairytale atmosphere. Sheltered by oak trees and bushes, cozy outside living spaces, flowered gazebos and hidden pathways will guide you to the property’s bucolic outdoors.

Location

At short 10 minute drive from the village of Belvès, a delightful, typically French village, the Castle lies in the Dordogne region, famously known for its history and cuisine. It counts, after Paris, with the highest number of monuments in the country. Sites such as the prehistoric caves of the Vézère, the village Sarlat, the Dordogne valley – famous for the picturesque landscapes of Castelnaud and Limeuil-  and the medieval castles of Beynac and Castelnaud are incredible one-day trip suggestions. The region, also known as the land of the 1001 Castles, holds more than 45 castles open to the public, be they medieval, Renaissance or classic.

Go visit the water mills of the Val de Dronne and let yourself be guided in the protected area of the Périgord Limousin Regional Nature Park. For wine lovers there is the Wine Route of Bergerac and the bastides of Domme and Monpazier del Périgord. Renowned for its gastronomy, it is hard not to be tempted by the refined dishes, Périgord truffles, walnuts and the Bergerac wines (eg Pécharmant and Monbazillac).

For hikers and nature lovers the Dordogne-Périgord is a perfect region, has the opportunity to go walking, horse riding and cycling, or canoeing along the rivers. For families there are special activities such as the “Via Ferrata dei Rapaci”, in the gardens of Marqueyssac in Vézac.
