The black and white horses that Remus’ sons were riding inspired the black and white bands on the Sienese crest. Moreover, the Sienese symbol of the she-wolf is said to come from the statue of a she-wolf that the sons carried with them.
The locals proudly acknowledge their history. They will often process through streets in traditional costume, singing and dancing to the sound of Sienese anthems. Within the town you can admire historical monuments such as the Duomo, the many churches, quaint old backstreets, and the Piazza del Campo.
In the latter, should you time your visit well, you may witness the Palio. World-famous, this dangerous horse-race is an exciting event that cannot be missed!
