Spoleto Grand Mansion | Umbria
“Host to Italy’s elite for centuries, this stately home houses guests in the utmost splendour. Elegantly furnished and set within 1200 hectares of breathtaking grounds, the Spoleto Grand Mansion truly serves as the ultimate luxury retreat”.
This Umbria vineyard villa is opulent in every sense of the word. A true stately home, this property bears an illustrious history, having hosted the elite of Italy throughout the centuries. Its construction dates back to the 17th Century, when the great Pianciani family were given permission to construct this stunning residence on former Roman and medieval remains. The mansion has maintained its high degree of lavishness ever since, having undergone thorough restoration in 1970, under the supervision of the great architect Tomaso Buzzi.
This stately home is able to luxuriantly accomodate 14 guests and spreads over three grand floors. On the ground floor, guests are immediately met by a large elegant entrance hall: an indicator of the grandeur that is to follow throughout the rest of the property. A living room, library, billiard room, breakfast room, kitchen, cellar, and guest bathroom make up the rest of the ground floor. This floor aptly illustrates the manner in which, throughout the centuries, the mansion has hosted only the most noble and dignified of guests. Elegantly furnished with antiques and precious work of art, these rooms exude luxury.
The property’s first floor, the ‘Piano Nobile’, boasts an elegant living room, dining room and private chapel. The highlight of this floor, however, is arguably its grandiose ballroom. Guests will be dazzled by its ornate upper gallery, octagonal window in the middle of the floor (an innovative addition from Buzzi) and large windows which allow light to flood into the room. Four decadent double bedrooms and three bathrooms are also found on this first floor.
On the second floor, guests can enjoy the use of yet another elegant living room. The property’s three other bedrooms (one double/triple, one double and one single) along with a further two bathrooms are also located on this floor.
This Umbria vineyard villa also caters for those wishing to host larger events of up to 150 people. Be it a grand wedding or a smaller private ceremony, this dreamy property will serve as the perfect backdrop to any function.
This Umbria vineyard villa is set in the most idyllic of grounds: 1200 hectares of farmland that stretch out towards Valnerina. Views of this stunning landscape can be enjoyed from the comfort of the property’s 12 by 6 metre private swimming pool.
The mansion is immediately surrounded by picturesque olive groves, together containing an astonishing 25,000 olive trees. In the period from November to March, these olives are harvested and transformed into the region’s delicious extra virgin olive oil. Guests are able to visit the property’s olive mill on request, to see this magic process in action.
A wider array of exquisite flora and fauna is found beyond the mansion’s pristine olive groves. This area is home to birds of prey, roe deer, wild boar and Chianina cattle, with which the famous ‘bistecca alla fiorentina’ is produced. In fact, in housing and conserving such an exceptional diversity of wildlife, this area has been named a Site of Community Importance by the EU.
The Spoleto Grand Mansion is located in Pianciano. This beautiful old hamlet is nestled within the stunning unspoilt landscape of the Valle della Spina, characterised by picturesque olive groves and vineyards. Guests will be in their own private paradise, with lush vegetation stretching out as far as the eye can see. At the same time, the stately home is conveniently located at just a 15 minute drive from the impressive ancient city of Spoleto. Visitors will marvel at the city’s rich variety of architecture, with its roman amphitheatre, medieval fortress and large array of Romanesque churches.
