St. Clare Monastery | Umbria
“Built as Benedictine monastery in the beginning of the 13th century, this breathtaking property will enchant guests with its unique atmosphere”.
Recently renovated, this historic property is the perfect example of how history and modernity can harmoniously blend together. Inside 13th century walls that transpire history, elegant furnishings and top-of-the-notch appliances compose delicate and serene environments.
This unique structure is composed by two independent apartments. The first apartment has approximately 300 square meters and is split into 2 floors. On the ground floor are the main common areas – a large kitchen, living and dining room. On the other hand, on the upper floor lie the 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. Designed as to maintain the environment’s more rustic characteristics, the apartment’s furnishings reflect the cozy countryside atmosphere, with beautifully handcrafted hardwood elements.
The second apartment rests on another wing. It is composed by 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms as well as kitchen, living and dining room. Here, the decor allows the Monastery’s history to stand out in a subtle yet delightful way. Priming comfort and tranquility, the sleek furniture with light colored upholstery and wooden beamed ceilings creates a chic yet natural ambiance.
Available at an extra fee, the large rooms of the ancient monastery’s cellar preserve history at it’s finest. Carved into the thick stone walls are still present the niches where, in medieval times, candlelit lanterns would light up the space. The grand room, with its majestic stone fireplace, tells the story of a time it held a mill and, later, a stable. Many of the rooms in the property are largely believed to have served as shelter for passing by pilgrims.
Perfect for special moments, staying at the monastery is indeed an unforgettable experience.
In front of the first structure, guests will find the beautiful courtyard of the monastery, ideal for outdoor dining. The property is surrounded by Umbrian greenery. The modern swimming pool perfectly highlights the clean opulence of the Monastery.
Overlooking the woods, the nightlights of the city of Collazzone light up the skyline. An outside wood-burning oven and kitchen alongside the pool invite guests to appreciate the beauty of the background while enjoying delightful home-cooked meals.
The fresh herb garden is sure to provide all necessary seasonings and spices.
At a 5 minute walk from the medieval city of Collazone, the Monastery is located in the heart of Umbria, halfway between Rome and Florence.
Very famous for the famous wineries, such as Sagrantino of Montefalco, Umbria also offers one of the best cuisine in Italy. Some of the ham, grains and olive oil produced here are recognized all over the world.
